Nuffnang Music Bash '09 @ Maison, KL
Thursday, April 09, 2009
It would take a pretty big event to gather music celebrities under one roof on a single night, but that was exactly what took place in Maison, KL, on a humid Saturday.
Alright, so they weren't exactly music celebrities, but there still had to be a valid reason for a bunch of people to dress up to their nine's and congregate in the heart of KL (which is prone to jams and what nots)
And that reason was the Nuffnang Music Bash 2009, with Maxis Broadband as the main sponsor.
Yes, the telco company is back, and this time, they're carrying a song or two with them. Fresh from the limited edition designs back in the Nuffnang WilD Live! Blogging event, Maxis is now promoting their latest series of customized USB modems, which bear interesting designs of cartoon artists.
I had the privilege of escorting Lady Gaga Look-alike (otherwise known as Jolene) to the do. I went as 'the guy who sang a few lines in 'Just Dance', pardon my ignorance. I note that everytime we head down to KL, there's bound to be people staring when we drive past.
Go figure. Trying to look 'yeng', an attempt which Failed.Com. Our arrival at Maison, KL, was relatively quiet, and I pulled up, not in a stretched limo, but rather, in a Malaysian-made number about to fall apart at the joints. Still, Jolene managed to strut the red carpet catwalk, and elicit some photos, along the way.
Lady Gaga. The Malaysian Variant.
First up was the surprise performance by The Holograms, comprised of our very own bloggers decked out in psychedelic clothes and hair that could blind you from kilometres away. Here, you'll see Nigel, Joshua, and Andrew perform a plethora of songs, one of them being 'Collide', which, coincidentally, I posted up a video of for this event.
The Holograms. Kel Li was also part of the troupe, with Pink Hair. Hsu Jen and David. Check out the shades! Lady Gaga purloined the plastic gun from Eminem. Its quite hard to reconcile Bob Marley and Gaga... ...with these two downright sober people (taken at a pole dancing event just last year) Jamie Liew came draped with mink, and looking as stunning as ever!
Jamie, whom I last bumped into at the Nuffnang gathering. =) After the usual introduction, and the buffet line, everyone gathered back at the main room, beer in hand, ready to listen to the proceedings of the evening. As at every Nuffnang event, MC. Liang was at at hand to dazzle the crowd with his never-ending stream of humour. The Nuffnang team came out to sing 'Let The Music Heal Your Soul', which was immediately followed by a dance number to the song Jai Ho (from Slumdog Millionaire), by the Nuffladies.
The Nuffnang Team.

The Nuffladies.
Pink! (Jolyn never holds back when it comes to dressing up =) Hikaru and I beam proudly behind our shades. Audrey and I were never formally introduced until that night. There came a point where the contestants had to imitate the dance moves of Beyonce in her music vidclip, 'Single Ladies'. Just take a look at the video below, and see if you could do half as well (not an easy feat, especially when it comes to the '54 second mark). It was a fun time to be had by all, and Hitomi (whom I spotted multiple times at the event) was one of the contestants to step up to the challenge.
Unfortunately, my camera batteries died (although I just charged them), and I left it behind. It was the first time that I attended an event without bringing a camera along, and the feeling was ... weird. Nonetheless, I had the good Jolene to fall back on, and she very graciously allowed me to use the photos that she took that night, hence the many repeated photos that you will also see on her blog. I'm still waiting for photos of Diese, Josh, Jess, and Nathalia, all of whom I met that night! Spotted walking around was Serge, offering free hugs, and I even bumped into Sher! (Nottingham university graduate, who happens to be friends with Tim, Nuffnang Maestro and Boss).
Soon after the hilarious spectacle of the contestants trying out the dance moves, the nominees for best celebrity impersonator were called up on stage, to parade themselves and pull off some showy steps, in order to claim the grand prize of a Sony PS3.

Lady Gaga, Britney Spears (again, the Malaysian variant), and Eminem (the very very Malaysian version). Britney dancing to a Yodelling song. Lady Gaga rocks! (I know you think its a bad angle, Jolene, but it really captures the moment...haha... =) And, she also grabbed the Topshop prize for best-dressed female! Jolyn (Pink) sways hypnotically to the yodelling as well... ... and walked away with an Ipod Touch for her pre-event blog video! Carol Koh! Nuffnang staff, and frequenter of many events. Simon Seow, the Man Who Is Everywhere, and Lady Gaga. Myself, Hsu Jen, and Jolene. Yatz (who won the best dressed male prize, as John Lennon), Vivien, and Lady Gaga. Christopher Tock, another joker who seems to be everywhere. Katey Perry (complete with flower in her hair). Zoe, as Zoe. In blue dress. And, the final photo of the night, Lady Gaga and ..err.. the dude who sang a few lines in 'Just Dance'. Many thanks to Nuffnang, and Maxis, for throwing yet another great party! Its another step to bringing closer the blogging community, and removing the computer screens that are separating us from each other.
Looking forward to the next one!
My gratitude also goes to Jolene, for allowing me to shamelessly steal
a bucketload of photos for blogging purposes. Thank God she has tonnes
more than these!
